This year's book!
The Algonquin Reads book for 2015/2016 is Mãn. This is the second novel by Kim Thuy, whose first novel, Ru, won the 2010 Governor General’s award and is the Canada Reads book for 2015. In delicate, illuminating vignettes, Thuy’s second novel depicts her heroine’s life in Vietnam during the war, then follows her journey as she immigrates to Montreal and establishes a life for herself, cooking in her husband’s restaurant, teaching cooking classes, and publishing a cookbook. 2015 is the 40th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, and the perfect time to discover this elegantly written book about one Vietnamese-Canadian.
